“Race-ist’ makes strides at box office

New South African film The Race-ist (directed by Andrew Wilmot) made the number seven spot in Nu Metro’s Top 8 for the weekend of 9 to 11 April. The film has made R284,742 after two weeks of release at the local cinema circuit.

Top earner for that weekend was How To Train Your Dragon (including 3D), which has made R12.1m to date. In second place was the Tina Fey/Steve Carrell/Mark Wahlberg starrer, Date Night followed by Bounty Hunter (Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler), The Tooth Fairy and Alice in Wonderland (3D). The latter has made R22.6m after six weeks.

Meanwhile, Oscar winner The Hurt Locker is edging closer to the R2m mark, having made R1.7m.
