BSkyB launched its Sky 3D channel on Saturday 3 April  with coverage of the high-profile English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Chelsea.

The service, currently available to some 1,500 pubs and clubs in the UK and Ireland, initially aired a showreel of the best of Sky 3D which will cover a wide range of different programming. Viewers were entertained with a spinning 3D spectacle graphic counting down until 3D coverage of the game began as well as a special 3D advert from Sky commercial partner (and stereoscopic glasses sponsor) Guinness.

In preparation for the launch of Sky 3D, Europe’s first 3D TV channel, Sky has also commissioned its first original 3D programme – feature documentary about the prehistoric world.  Flying Monsters 3D is written and presented by Sir David Attenborough, one of the UK’s best-known broadcasters.

The film will be released theatrically in both large format and IMAX cinemas around the world, and will premiere on Sky 3D later this year.
