The new South African comedy, Jozi (starring Carl Beukes and Lionel Newton), had made R707,849 on the local cinema circuit as at 14 March. Its weekend performance of R46,873 put it in sixth spot on UIP’s Top 8. Jozie has been on circuit since 26 February.
The biggest performer over the weekend in question was Alice in Wonderland (incl 3D) – it took R3.7m and its cumulative box office now stands at R10m after two weeks of release.
Meryl Streep’s new comedy co-starring Alec Baldwin, It’s Complicated was the second biggest performer over the same weekend. It has now made R6.1m after three weeks.
New release Shutter Island took just under R1m. Meanwhile, after 13 weeks of release, Avatar’s box office is R54.9m.
