The public service network of British commercial television broadcasters, ITV, has posted a pre-tax profit of £25m for 2009. This is a distinct improvement on the previous year, where ITV posted a loss of £2.7bn.

The Guardian reports that despite the fact that total revenue across the ITV group fell 7% year on year to £1.88bn, the company had a strong finish at the end of 2009, so much so that it outperformed the total TV ad market which fell 11%.
Last year ITV reduced its costs by £169m.
