In a bid to restructure and cut costs, staff cutbacks at financially-strapped public broadcaster SABC are believed to be imminent. According to Business Day, details of the cutbacks to made by the new board and new Group CEO Solly Mokoetle will be finalised over the next two months.

The SABC employs nearly 4,000 employees, a head count that has long been described by the media and the television production industry as bloated. Consider that there are well over 100 commissioning editors in the Content Hub alone.

Additionally, the SABC wants the Auditor-General to undertake a comprehensive forensic audit to clean up the financial and managerial mismanagement that led the broadcaster to implode last year, some R910m in the red.
