The newly formed International 3D Society held its inaugural annual Lumiere Awards on 23 February at Hollywood’s Mann Chinese Theatre. James Cameron’s Avatar won for live action 3D feature of the year, 3D character, 3D scene, live-action 3D stereography, 3D VFX and achievement for marketing 3D content.
Other films in the prizes were Up (animated 3D feature), Partly Cloudy (3D short), Imax’s Under the Sea 3D (3D documentary), G-Force (achievement in converting a feature from 2D to 3D) and Coraline (3D stereography).
As voted by the public online, Avatar won The International 3D Society/People’s Choice Award for 3D live action picture and Coraline the award for 3D animated film.
