The SABC board is expected to restart the search for a new head of news. This position was previously held by the controversial Snuki Zikalala who was said to be an overtly ANC and Thabo Mbeki supporter. Currently Phil Molefe is acting SABC news head. Karima Brown, the Business Day political editor, is said to be the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) choice.
Jimi Matthews, former head of e.tv and SABC TV news as well as head of news for licensed pay-TV operator Telkom Media which has been taken over by Super5Media, has also been mentioned as a contender.
