Avatar might have dropped to second place on the South African box cinema circuit during the weekend of 12 to 14 February, but it still managed to rake in R2.1m, and after nine weeks of release. The cumulative local box office for this 3D epic is R49.2m.
Top earner for the weekend in question was the timely, star-studded romantic comedy, Valentine’s Day. It made R3.6m in this, its opening weekend.
In third spot was another new release, Wolfman (R1.1m), followed by the animated The Princess and the Frog (R927,038) and The Spy Next Door (R851,204). (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
