UK allows product placement on TV

The Guardian reports that product placement on UK TV programmes will be allowed for the first time, leaving Denmark as the only EU member state that doesn’t permit product placement.

British culture secretary Ben Bradshaw issued a ministerial statement saying that product placement would “provide meaningful commercial benefits to commercial television companies and programme-makers’.

However, some types of products will be barred. These include alcoholic drinks, foods and drinks high in fat, salt or sugar, gambling, smoking accessories, over the counter medicines and infant formula.
