Rainbow Skellums, the new South African film produced by Andre Scholtz (Panic Mechanic), was in the number 8 spot in Ster-Kinekor’s Top 8 for the weekend 8 to 10 January, having made R1.8m to date. Targeted at Afrikaans-speaking audience, Rainbow Skellums is based on the candid camera format.
The weekend in question was dominated by Avatar, which topped the combined Ster-Kinekor, UIP and Nu Metro top 10. In second spot was new release Planet 51, the Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson action adventure, followed by Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 and Couples Retreat.
Meanwhile, Clint Eastwood’s inspiring take on Nelson Mandela and the Rugby World Cup, Invictus, has made R9m since its release on 11 December.
