Next year’s edition of the holy grail of independent film festivals, Sundance, which takes place in Park City, Utah from 21 to 31 January, has enjoyed more submissions than the 2009 edition. Althogther 3,724 films entered for 2010 – this amounts to 42 more feature films than 2009 and 21 more documentaries.

Sundance organisers are predicting a lot of sales activity at the 2010 event, a reassuring sign for an industry hit by recession. Also reassuring is that the festival has retained all its presenting sponsors (ie. Entertainment Weekly, HP, Honda and Sundance Channel).

Included in the 2010 festival is a new category called Next, which will consist of eight “no-budget’ features.
