As one might expect, Quentin Tarantino’s new film, the oddly spelt Inglourious Basterds, went straight to the top of the South African box office when it opened on the weekend of 23 to 25 October. It made just over R1m.

The film pushed The Ugly Truth to second spot. This romantic comedy has performed well and made R5.2m in just three weeks. In third and fourth spot are two animated films including 3D, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (which also includes Imax release) and Up. The latter has made R13.8m in its seven weeks on the local box office.

New release, Gerard Butler’s futuristic thriller Gamer, took fifth spot for the weekend in questions, making R382,923. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
