The new animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (which includes not only 3D but Imax as well) opened at the South African box office on 16 October and took R908,211 over that weekend. This put it in second spot after The Ugly Truth, which has been on release for two weeks and has accumulated R3.8m.
Another animated film with 3D, Up, was in third spot and has made R13.2m after six weeks. It was followed by The Taking of Pelham 12-3 and Final Destination 4 (including 3D).
After eight weeks of release, the South African blockbuster District 9 has made R9.6m.
The South African-themed film Disgrace was in tenth spot in UIP’s Top 8 for the weekend in question. Its cumulative box office after 10 weeks of release is R535,512.
