In preparation the FIFA 2010 World Cup, the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) has compiled a catalogue of 2010 and soccer-themed titles, recently completed or currently in production. The catalogue was launched on Tuesday 6 October to international buyers attending the Cannes content market, MIPCOM 2009.
Titles included in the catalogue cover diverse themes related to the World Cup and African and South African soccer in general. The 2010 catalogue is available in print copy as well as on the GFC’s website (www.gautengfilm.org.za) and will be periodically updated in the run up to the FIFA World Cup, as new titles become available.
“There has been a dearth of 2010-themed content and international buyers have been clamouring for programmes that not only cover the World Cup but South Africa and Africa in general. The launch of the GFC’s catalogue has therefore been greeted with keen interest,” says Jacques Stoltz, GFC Senior Marketing Manager.
In addition to 14 titles, the catalogue also contains international sales contacts for M-Net, the South African Broadcasting Corporation, e-TV as well as The African Film Library, an M-Net initiative showcasing the best of the African film industry.
Dan Jawitz from Fireworx Marketing & Distribution representing a number of the titles included in the catalogue says that he has seen keen interest from buyers from Brazil, Argentina and Malaysia attending MIPCOM this year.
