Following the example of the Swedish Pirate Party, which gained 7.1% of the national vote in Sweden, a new political party in the UK that wants to legalise non-commercial file-sharing is hoping to make an impact in the next general election which must be held before June 2010.
The Pirate Party UK is targeting the youth vote and wants an overhaul of copyright and patent law.
Affiliated to the Swedish movement, the Pirate Party UK believes that peer-to-peer filesharing sites should be regarded as public libraries.
