The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) invites interested persons to submit written responses to applications for Individual Electronic Communications Network Services (I-ECNS) by Broadcasting Service Licensees for the purpose of self-provisioning. The applications have been published on ICASA website and the library.
The Authority received applications from Walking on Water (WoW), e.tv, On Digital Media (ODM), Telkom Media and WorldSpace in response to its invitation to apply for
I-ECNS licences to provide broadcasting services through satellite infrastructure. The invitation was issue on 26 March this year.
ICASA’s manager: Media and Stakeholders Liaison, Sekgoela Sekgoela, explains: “The above applicants already have pay-TV licences to provide content. The question that now arises is how to get their content out to their subscribers. ICASA has given them the option for applying for I-ECNS licences which would allow them to distribute their own signal (ie. self-provisioning), rather than leasing services from signal distributor Sentech.”
The Authority invites any interested parties to submit written responses to the above applications on or before 31July 2009 at 16h00 by fax or email at:
Fax: (011) 566 3658 or (011) 566 3050
