No organisation is immune from the economic downturn and the BBC is no exception. BBC stars like Bruce Forsyth and Sir Terry Wogan have been informed that they can expect salary cuts when their contracts come up for renewal.
BBC television stars were summoned to BBC headquarters for a briefing on the planned cuts which could save the public broadcaster approximately £400m. The BBC aims to put further measures in place which will give it a saving of £1.9 billion.
As part of its cost-cutting initiatives, the BBC has already placed a pay and bonus freeze on senior managers. We have yet to learn the public broadcaster SABC will implement a similar initiative to bring down its debt of close on R800m.
