It’s reassuring to know that the SABC is not the only public broadcaster which is subject to government interference. A British parliamentary committee has instructed the BBC to curb its commercial operations.

According to The Guardian, the House of Commons culture, media and sport select committee has decreed that all future activities of BBC Worldwide (the broadcaster’s commercial arm), must be linked with core BBC programming, so as not to damage the public broadcaster’s reputation.
The committee also does not favour the proposed tie-up between BBC Worldwide and Channel 4.
