Fugard play films in the Cape

South African playwright Athol Fugard’s famous apartheid era play, Master Harold and the Boys, is being filmed for the big screen in Cape Town. It stars Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible II) and is directed by Emmy Award-winning Lonny Price, who starred in the original Broadway production of the play and who directed the 2003 revival.

The film is produced by South African company Spier Films and Focus Features in the UK. Producers are Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat and Mike Auret for Spier and David Pupkewitz for Focus. Award-winning South African actor/writer Nicky Rebelo adapted the play for the screen. Cinematographer is Lance Gewer who shot the Oscar-winning Tsotsi and the film is edited by Ronelle Loots.
