South African public broadcaster SABC has selected OmniBus’ Colossus automation system for its upgraded Johannesburg playout facility. The system will provide transmission of the SABC’s three premium channels, along with a spare channel for training.

"SABC is installing Colossus as part of our planned program of upgrades designed to future-proof our facility," said Manny Coelho, manager of Broadcast Facilities at SABC. "Colossus offers highly configurable workflows and a flexible user environment that will allow us to tailor our operations as requirements change and evolve."
The Colossus system will control Omneon servers at the broadcaster’s upgraded facility and provide an enhanced, automated workflow with cache management and G3 desktops for flexible, component-based functionality.

Jim Kirkland, OmniBus pre-sales manager noted: "The Colossus upgrade project builds on a successful 12-year relationship between SABC and OmniBus. As the Colossus platform is well established, it was a natural path for SABC to entrust their flagship channels to it."
