Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire was announced best picture (drama) at the Golden Globe Awards which took place on 11 January in Los Angeles. The film also picked up best director for Boyle as well as best screenplay and best score.
Kate Winslet won the best actress award (drama) for Revolutionary Road and also scored in the best supporting actress (drama) category for The Reader. Best actress in the musical or comedy category was Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky.
The late Heath Ledger won best supporting actor (drama) for his role as Joker in The Dark Knight, while Mickey Rourke was judged best actor (drama) for The Wrestler. Colin Farrell won the musical or comedy best actor award for In Bruges.
Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona won best musical or comedy, while the Israeli film Waltz with Bashir triumphed in the best foreign film category. Wall-E was best animated feature film.
Mad Men won best TV drama series and 30 Rock the best sitcom, with the latter’s stars, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, both winning in the acting categories.
