A cookery series with a distinct difference launches on SABC2 on Sunday 7 December. “Take a biscuit …’ combines comedy-drama with reality. It revolves around the relationship between Tannie (Trix Pienaar) and her chef-in-training nephew Jono (Brendan Murray), whom she affectionately calls Boeta.
The relationship between the two cooks is a pivotal part of the programme. Tannie is determined to teach Boeta her charming, old-style culinary values while Boeta is dedicated to trendy dishes. Together they prepare for a series of surprise parties for real people whose friends nominated them as “a biscuit’ through the local West Coast media.
The filming of the episodes alternates between two kitchens: a conventional domestic kitchen which Tannie shines in and an industrial kitchen, claimed by Boeta as his “natural habitat’.
Shot on location at Club Mykonos in Langebaan on the Cape West Coast, the series includes beautiful scenery, real people celebrating real events, comedy, drama and of course, glorious food. Viewers will be able to download all the recipes from the series website, www.takeabiscuit.co.za.
