Ethiopia’s Haile Gerima has won both the Special Jury Price and the Best Screenplay award at the 65th Venice Film Festival, which came to a close on 6 September. The awards were for Teza, a co-production between Ethiopia, Germany and France.
Mickey Rourke’s comeback film, The Wrestler, directed by American Darren Aronofsly has won the Golden Lion for Best Film.
There were 21 films in competition with the jury chaired by Wim Wenders. The rest of the jury comprised Juriy Arabov, Valeria Golino, Douglas Gordon, Lucrecia Martel, John Landis, and Johnnie To.

OSELLA for Best Cinematography – Alisher Khamidhodjaev and Maxim Drozdov for Bumažnyj Soldat (Paper Soldier) by Aleksey German Jr. (Russia)
SPECIAL LION for Overall Work – Werner Schroeter (The Jury decided to award a Special Lion for his uncompromising and relentlessly innovative work over a period of 40 years to Werner Schroeter.)
