More than 150 computers are needed to operate the new Toy Story Midway Mania amusement ride at Disney’s California Adventure Park, adjoining Disneyland.
Made in 1995, the phenomenally successful Toy Story was the first full length animated film from Pixar.
It tells the story of a cowboy toy who is profoundly threatened and jealous when a fancy spaceman toy supplants him as top toy in a boy’s room. A sequel was produced in 1999. Pixar is currently working on a 3D sequel, planned for release in 2010.
To create the theme park ride, which makes visitors feels as if they’ve been shrunk to the size of toys in a child’s room, Pixar animators worked with the Disney Imagineering team. Once “shrunk’, visitors can interact with the toys. (Source: Los Angeles Times)
