South Africa’s first ever daily soap, Egoli – Place of Gold, produced by Franz Marx Films for pay-TV channel M-Net, has been renewed until the end of March 2010. The soap is recorded daily at Johannesburg’s Sasani Studios.
This marks the 18th consecutive year that the contract has been renewed. As per the contract, Franz Marx Films will produce another 12 montths of Egoli, which is screened on weekdays on M-Net at 6pm.
M-Net’s Head of Original Productions Carl Fisher described the soap as an institution in the homes of many M-Net subscribers. “It is a favourite among pay-TV viewers and remains in the Top 5 most popular shows on M-Net, week after week.’
Egoli recently celebrated its 16th birday on viewers’ screens. It is also available on DStv’s Compact bouquet, on DStv Easyview and online on Kudu Club.
The producers promise “riveting new storylines’ as well as some familiar and some brand new faces.
