The Iraq war has not only seen the death of tens of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of US troops, but also scores of journalists. Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RWB) has revealed that 38-year old Iraqi broadcaster Jassim al-Batat, who was gunned down on the way to his radio station, has become the 211th journalist to be killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003.

According to RWB, the lack of impunity for journalists in Iraq actually encourages armed groups to keep attacking journalists. The RWB also maintains that the deaths of journalists are largely ignored by boht the US army and Iraqui authorities.
