Cape Town-based Two Oceans Production, the South African co-producers of The Three Investigators in the Secret of Skeleton Island, a Studio Hamburg Production, will present the first premier of the film outside of Germany in the Mother City on Saturday, 17 November.
The film which was shot in Cape Town at the beginning of 2006 recently premiered in Germany with great success.
The film is based on the international children’s book series, originated by Alfred Hitchcock in the US. What makes the film unique is that the three young Californian detectives in the series come to South Africa. The three boys get drawn into a mystery, in which they want to help a girl from a township to clear her father from the suspicion of a crime. The film recounts a wonderful story for children and young people featuring local heroes from the Bo Kaap and Khayelitsha and taking place in some of the most beautiful locations of the Western Cape.
This German-South African co-production was carried out with the support of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and is also the first major international feature, with a South African storyline, under license from Buena Vista International and Walt Disney.
“The whole film story represents a pledge against prejudice, racism and for the unity of the peoples in Africa. In the story, the white boys from the US develop a close bond with the children from the township,’ explain Two Oceans Production producers Giselher Venzke and Bertha Spieker.
To underline this importance of this coup for Cape Town, Two Oceans Production has decided that the first premiere outside of Germany will be held, not in LA, but in the Mother City. The American and South African lead actors, the director, the producers and the whole crew as well as the suppliers will attend the premiere, together with their families. Other guests include representatives of the local government, the IDC, DTI and National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF).
