Liam Cundill Joins Razor Sharp Films As In-House Director
Liam Cundill has decided to affiliate himself with Razor Sharp Films as their full time, in house director.
The industry will know Liam as the Director of the new concept Panarottis adverts now being broadcast on TV, shot for JWT as well as the epic and majestic Chronicles of Narnia fantasy type Commercial for Spur Steakranches, through Y&R.
Liam has been in the film industry since 1985 where he started as a runner on the tv series the Mantis Project. He then moved over to working as an actor , doing 0ver 20 feature films, 5 tv series and many other projects before returning behind the camera in 1990 swiftly became one of the countries top AD’s.
In 2001 he joined Gems productions on the island of Mauritius as their in house director and directed over 20 commercials for the French market over the following 2 years.
In 2003 he returned to Cape Town as a freelance director and has been working ever since with numerous production companies doing local and award winning Africa commercials for brands such as Virgin Active, MTN, Lucozade, Panadol and Triumph .
Liams says “ I have always believed that to do a job properly one has to know the job. That’s why I have spent a long time behind the camera as an AD learning my craft. Having been an actor for all those years I have aimed at doing more performance based commercials and have developed a sense of quirky comedic direction that sets off my work. The combination of hard work and experience makes me one of the most budget effective producers around. I also have strong creative ideas yet am a firm believer in team work. “
Rachel Young( Exec at RSF) is very excited to have Liam on board. “ we have for a long time wanted to focus more energy on the local market, but finding a director you can work with, who has a decent reel and who is available isn’t always easy. Liam and I have know each other for many years and are we looking forward to getting his name out there in the South African advertising agency market and getting in some nice boards. I always believe there is a room for someone new and different. We are putting ourselves out there as a company who can produce good creatively driven work and be cost effective at the same time”
