Garth Holmes and Bata Passchier, the directors and founding members of AFDA (The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance), attended the Cilect Conference in Prague, Czech Republic from 30 November to 2 December.
CILECT is the association of the world's major film and television schools. Its goals are to provide a means for the exchange of ideas among member schools, and to help them understand the future of education for creative personnel in film, television, and related media. It is dedicated to the creation, development and maintenance of regional and international co-operation among its member schools, and to the encouragement of film and television training in the developing world.
The CILECT Conference 2011 Exploring the Future of Film and Media Education, was hosted by FAMU in Prague. During the Conference the delegates had the opportunity to actively contribute and participate in three panel discussions that were led by Holmes and Passchier on the fundamental values of film education, benchmarking and evaluation and the impact of internationalisation.
Prague was an amazing experience as a city and the conference was designed to optimise networking between delegates, says Holmes.
AFDA will be hosting Cilects bi-annual congress in Cape Town at the Southern Sun, Cape Sun Hotel, from 1 to 5 May 2012. It will also host the CARA Conference on 30 April 2012.
