Advanced television reports that digital TV households worldwide grew by 338 million between 2006 and 2010 to a total of 576 million. The Digital TV World Databook estimates that this takes digital penetration from 18.9% at end of 2006 to 42.5% by the end of 2010.
While there were still 780 million analogue TV households (both terrestrial and cable, with a few analogue DTH ones) by the end of 2010, this was a marked decrease from the figure of 1.023 billion at the end of 2006.
The report also showed that pay-TV penetration - analogue and digital combined reached half of the worlds TV households by the end of 2010, up from 40% at the end of 2006.
