M-Net soap The Wild
Pay-TV channel M-Nets decision to move ground-breaking outdoor soap The Wild to a 7pm time slot on DStv is paying off, based on interaction from viewers in the past few weeks.
The move from 6pm to 7pm was made following numerous requests from viewers to screen it later in the evening so that they don't miss out on any of the drama and action.
Tweets about the series exploded after the character Tiro, played by Putla Sehlapelo, died last week during a Rhino poaching stake-out. On Twitter the name Tiro was the 4th most talked about topic in South Africa and mentions about the series increased by 600%. It overtook Donovan Moodley which was the biggest topic earlier on that day.
The best compliment to us is the passionate way in which the public engage with the programme, says executive producer Bobby Heaney. Everybody worked as a team to prepare for primetime and the early reaction from the public is a great motivation to all members of the cast and crew. This is not an ordinary soap, so viewers can look forward to a regular dose of action, drama and passion in the new timeslot.
Viewers will be happy to know that Wandile Molebatsi who plays the quiet, contemplative and laidback character Blessing, will be back on their screens in February after a serious accident last year. He was critical for five days, but fought back and survived the ordeal. After a recovery period of six months he is fit, back at work and recently announced that he will be launching a wear your safety belt campaign.
Conservation is running high in the camp with Faye Peters (Bernie) who adopted an ex-racehorse from the SPCA and wishes to encourage people to adopt animals. The Wild is also teaming up with rock sensation The Parlotones and Jacaranda to raise funds for a tracker dog that will be part of a new initiative by the Jacaranda Rhino Fund.
