Cosatu unhappy with TopTV adult channels

Thu, 19 Jan 2012 15:06

Trade union federation Cosatu has voiced its opposition to pay-TV operator Top-TV’s three proposed 24-hour adult content channels.

According to Channel24 Cosatu has said that the channels will ‘reinforce sexist attitudes and encouraged the abuse of women’ and ‘contribute to a lowering of moral standards in the country’.

Cosatu has reportedly written a letter to Kopano ke Matla Investment Company, a TopTV shareholder and also the company managing Cosatu’s investment. The letter to Kopano CEO Collin Matjila demands that the channels be scrapped, or that Kopano stop investing in TopTV, as Cosatu does not want to be seen ‘condoning and funding’ pornographic companies.
