Sony's OTT IPTV service

The Wall Street Journal reports that Japanese company Sony plans to launch a new over the top (OTT) IPTV service to compete with cable and satellite TV services.

Sony is reportedly negotiating with several media companies regarding rights to make their channels available on IPTV in America.

The Broadband TV News online edition of 17 November questions whether this will be a viable business model, pointing out that Google has yet to find a workable model for Google TV and that even YouTube’s early TV channel ventures are not promising.
