South African youth are urged to surf the Internet as part of the 4th Taiwan Youth Trekkers Campaign which aims to showcase the beauty of this island. Internationally renowned travel guide publisher, Lonely Planet, has named the Republic of China (Taiwan) among the 10 countries to visit in 2012.
Persons who are between the ages of 18 and 30 are eligible for participation. Entrants have to cover a theme or topic of their interest and weave this into an itinerary based on a dream trip to Taiwan.
Pictures and images may be used in this brochure like presentation. Entrants have to register via the official webpage http://youthtravel.tw/youthtrekker. All required registration information must be submitted by 11 December 2011.
The itinerary should capture the interests of youth on a broader scale and should cover a 10-day- long trip. Previous winners based their itineraries on their specific interests like tea-making, horticulture, hot springs, coffee brewing, air-ballooning, parasailing, deep sea diving and surfing.
Categories are not prescribed and are open to anyones imagination. Video footage on Taiwan that was posted on YouTube and Facebook by entrants in the previous Youth Trekkers Campaigns can be used as examples.
Once participants have completed their itineraries, these should be uploaded to the Campaigns official website. The top 20 entries from across the globe are given a maximum of US$ 3,000 to fulfill the wishes of their dream itinerary.
The purpose of the campaign is to see how Taiwan fits in with the notions of youth worldwide with regard to travel and tourism. It is also hoped that interest in backpacking through Taiwan could be stimulated and shared with others.
The project is initiated by the Taiwanese National Commission, which supports 40 youth Travel Spots in the country and has a variety of freebees for all youth. These include the free usage of cellular phones, specially-priced rail passes, a range of guide services and discounts and special offers on a variety of goods and services. The collaborative endeavour gets foreign youth to experience local Taiwanese culture, sites and activities and to share them with a wider audience. The natural scenic beauty of this tropical island is a given and forms a highlight of the visit, in itself.
