Three out of the top five performing films at the South African box office over the weekend (8 to 10 June) are 3D releases. New release Prometheus (including 3D) (105 prints) was the top earner with R1.7m.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the independence of Algeria on 5 July, AfricAvenir presents the Namibian première of the classic film, The Battle of Algiers. This première also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of the colonial war in Algeria. Directed in 1965 by Gillo Pontecorvo, The Battle of Algiers will be screened on 30 June at 70m at Studio 77, Old Breweries Complex, Windhoek.
