BTech students from the Department of Film and Drama Studies at the Tshwane University of Technology have teamed up with a dental surgeon to give a free dental make-over as part of producing a pilot reality programme for pay-TV channel M-Nets EDiT (Emerging Dynamics in Television) competition.
EDiT is a learner based initiative which provides South African film students production opportunities within the real world television environment.
The pilot, titled Smile, will follow the same story line used in most make-over programmes, wherein the candidate will be transformed from an ugly duckling to the exquisite swan at the end of each episode. However, it differs from the other programmes by focusing on the mouth area of the programme, especially the teeth. The other basic make over elements including hair, make-up and clothing will also be given some attention in the duration of the programme.
Dr Jurgens Grovι of Johannesburg is the dentist involved and Veronica Swart is the make-over subject. The dental make-over procedure will be done in one day using Computer Assisted Design/Manufacture technology.
Smile is directed by Renske de Klerk.
