A scene from Semi Soet
A host of pre-release screenings at 8pm on Tuesday, 14 February is offered by South African cinema chain Sterk-Kinekor, including This Means War, My Week With Marilyn and Semi Soet.
This Means War sees Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon teaming up with Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in this hilarious action-packed caper in which two CIA agents and best friends realise that they are dating the same woman.
Semi Soet, described as the first Afrikaans rom-com in decades, promises to deliver a Hollywood-style, high-quality experience with fun, laughter and love throughout. Starring a stellar cast of local talent such as Anel Alexander, Nico Panagio, Sandra Vaughn, Louw Venter, Diaan Lawreson and more, this is a local is lekker must-see.
Workaholic Jaci (Alexander) works at an advertising agency and is in the middle of the pitch of her life. However she needs to convince the potential client that she lives by his values of family and commitment. In order to do so, Jaci hires a model to pretend to be her fake fiancι. This leads to a series of comical complications, side-splitting laughter and, of course, a little love too.
My Week With Marilyn is the published account of the experiences of a then 23-year-old Colin Clark who was working as a lowly assistant on the set of Marilyn Monroes The Prince And The Showgirl. Nearly 40 years on, Colins diary account of The Prince, The Showgirl And Me was published with one week missing from the records, and this is the story of that week - an idyllic week during which Clark escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of working. When Monroes husband, playwright Arthur Miller makes a brief trip to Paris, the coast is clear for Clark to introduce her to some of the pleasures of British life.
My Week With Marilyn is poised to win the hearts of millions of film fanatics, with Michelle Williams winning a Golden Globe for her performance, and racking up an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. Co-star Kenneth Branagh (Sir Laurence Olivier) has also received an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. My Week With Marilyn is a definite must-see for the more discerning movie lover.
