The cast of Modern Family
Season one of the hit Twentieth Century Fox comedy series Modern Family premiered on e.tv on Sunday 5 February at 7:30pm, offering an honest and often hilarious look at the complexity of family life.
Modern Family won the Golden Globe Award earlier this year for Best Series: Musical or Comedy, and stars Ed ONeill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Nolan Gould, Ariel Winter and Rico Rodriguez.
Jay (Ed ONeill), a true guys guy, is having a bit of a mid-life crisis. Jay has found a much younger wife, Gloria (Sofia Vergara), who has become the centre of his world. Shes a passionate and sassy divorcee who comes with an 11-year-old son, Manny (Rico Rodriguez). Already taking notice of girls and a hopeless romantic, Manny is as passionate as his mom and spends his time daydreaming and writing poetry. His new stepfather isnt altogether comfortable with the sensitive stuff and would like to toughen Manny up. But thats only one of Jays challenges. The biggest may be that people often mistake him for Glorias father, not her husband.
Jays tightly-wound daughter Claire (Julie Bowen) is married to Phil (Ty Burrell), who is trying hard to be a cool dad, but its not always easy, especially when you have a teenage daughter, Haley (Sarah Hyland), whos growing up a little too fast, Alex (Ariel Winter), a too-smart-for-her-own-good middle daughter and Luke (Nolan Gould), a rambunctious young boy.
Jays son, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his life partner of five years, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), have just taken that amazing next step by adopting a child together from Vietnam. Cameron has a wonderfully big personality and a flare for the dramatic, whereas Mitchell is the more serious of the two. But they balance each other out and are incredibly doting fathers.
Steve Cornish, SVP and managing director, 20th Century Fox Television Distribution, says: Modern Family has already established itself as a hit comedy in the US and elsewhere, were confident that the series will prove a similar success for e.tv in South Africa.
