
Tagged the World Cup of filmmaking the first Cinemasports international filmmaking competition to be held in Africa will take place on 18 September in Tshwane, South Africa. Harnessing a synergy between digital video, Internet, and mobile technology, Cinemasports is at the forefront of the changing media landscape.
Competing teams at the Tshwane event will have 10 hours to complete a movie with a list of ingredients. The finished movies will then be screened at the 11th hour on the night of the 18th.Teams compete in two categories musical and narrative.
Cinemasports has traveled to dozens of cities including New York, Los Angeles, Moscow, Paris, and Buenos Aires. The largest event to date included 1,200 participants in
Moscow, Russia. Participation and screening is open to the public.
The Cinemasports day goes like this: After announcement of ingredients at the 9am kick-off meeting, teams disperse to start their frantic filmmaking. Writing, rehearsal, shooting, and editing happen within these intense hours of extreme filmmaking. At 8pm teams reassemble for the screening that evening a world premiere on the day the movie was started.
