BREAKING NEWS: Four Corners, South Africa's official Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language Film, has received a Best International Film Nomination from the International Press Academy (IPA) for its Satellite Awards ceremony on 9 March 2014.

Set in the unknown world of the Cape Flats, this South African coming-of-age film was completed only 12 weeks ago and is a novice in the arena of well-established competitors in the International Film category.

Directed by Ian Gabriel (Forgiveness), Four Corners is the only nominee from Africa in the group of 10 international films competing in the Motion Picture, International Film category for the prestigious IPA Satellite Awards.

“Four Corners’ nomination by the influential IPA places the film alongside the most frequently tipped 2013 Oscar Best Foreign Language film contenders, and is considered a boost to South Africa's Oscar ambitions,” says Helen Kuun, CEO of Indigenous Film Distribution.

Adds Kuun: “The IPA is a global association of professional entertainment journalists who reach millions worldwide via print, television, radio, and the internet. The nomination comes only days before the official screening of the film to the Academy's Foreign Language Film Committee.”

The other nominees in the Best International Film Nomination category are Bethlehem (Israel), Blue Is the Warmest Color (France), The Broken Circle Breakdown (Belgium), Circles (Serbia), The Great Beauty (Italy), The Hunt (Denmark), Metro Manila (United Kingdom), The Past (Iran) and Wadjda (Saudia Arabia).

Four Corners opens on the South African theatrical circuit on 7 February 2014 through Indigenous Film Distribution.
