SA films perform at box office

The Afrikaans-language South African film, Bakgat 2 (21 prints), had made R5.1m at the local box office as at 17 October, after six weeks of release.

Another Afrikaans film, Suzanna van Biljon (15 prints) cracked the R1m mark over the weekend. It has been on release for four weeks.

The Cape Town-set drama Long Street (3 prints) has been on release for three weeks and has accumulated R53,679.

Hollywood release, Despicable Me (including 3D) (49 prints) was the top earner over the weekend, taking R1.8m. Its cumulative box office after three weeks is R8.4m.

Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem’s Eat Pray Love (81 prints) was the second best performer with R1.6m and a cumulative box office of R5.8m.

New release, Jennifer Aniston’s The Switch (36 prints), came in at number three with R813,443. Karate Kid continues to do well and made the number five spot with R527,531 over the weekend, with its cumulative box office at R11.1m. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
