Top 2011 grossers

If you wonder why Hollywood keeps churning out sequels consider The Hollywood Reporter’s review of the Top 10 grossing films of 2011 – eight of the films are sequels.

Topping the list is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with a worldwide gross of $1.3bn, followed by Transformers: Dark of the Moon at $1.1bn.
In third spot is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at $1bn, followed by Kung Fu Panda 2 at $663m.

Next up are The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 at $648m; Fast Five at $626m; The Hangover Part II at $581.5m; The Smurfs at $562.4m; Cars 2 at $551.9m and Rio at $484.6m.

Only The Smurfs and Rio are not sequels. Both are animated films that were released in 3D and 2D.
