It is hugely exciting for the South African film industry to see that five local films are on release at the same time at the local box office.

The noir thriller How To Steal 2 Million (30 prints) continues its impressive run and after three weeks has made just over R1m.

Meanwhile, the niche Afrikaans language film, Saak van Geloof (14 prints), has made R223,755 after two weeks of release.

The hard-hitting true life story from South Africa’s apartheid days, The Bang Bang Club (2 prints), continues its nine-week long run at the box office. It had made R1.3m as at 18 September.

The most mainstream of the South African films currently on release, Jock of the Bushveld 3D (47 prints), is proving to be a real blockbuster and had notched up just over R11m at the end of the weekend.
