South African satellite pay-TV platform TopTV is in the news again very soon after the furore around its thwarted plans to add porn channels to its bouquet. Vino Govender, CEO of TopTVs parent company On Digital Media (ODM), is set to leave according to Mail & Guardian.
The newspaper reported on 31 January that ODM chairperson Eddie Mbalo (former long-time CEO of the National Film and Video Foundation) said that the board and Govender were discussing a mutual separation.
TV with Thinus reports that one of TopTVs major investors, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), wants Govender to be replaced.
At the end of 2011 TopTV, which turns two in May this year, reportedly had 300,000 subscribers.
Sine inception TopTV has been challenged by the fact that competitor MultiChoice has the monopoly on sports rights and has exclusive first movie release deals with the major studios.
