Rwandas Kwetu Film Institute began its 2012 classes on 23 January following a one-week delay to accommodate completion of the filming of the current class project.
Speaking on the behalf of the institutes management Joseph Njata said: We regret to announce that the January intake did not start on the 16th as scheduled. Poor weather made it hard for the students to film at all the locations that their film requires.
Meanwhile the 8th Rwanda Film Festival (RFF), scheduled to take place from 14 28 July 2012, is now accepting film submissions until 20 March. The festivals theme is My Voice, My Face, My Soul, My Identity.
For the last seven years the RFF has provided new and experienced filmmakers from around the world an opportunity to showcase their work, interact with other aspiring filmmakers and network among industry professionals and African celebrities.
Last year's event was graced by a delegation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Among other requirements, the festival is inviting short films of less than 59 minutes with features of more than 60 minutes. Genres should include documentary, animation, experimental and narrative.
