Nyerai Films’ latest film in development, Mud Wife, was in September selected for the Films Fra Sψr / Films From The South Norwegian Film Fund. The film completes the Kare Kare Zvako trilogy produced by Olaf Kosckhe and Tsitsi Dangarembga.

Open to filmmakers from the global south, the fund selected 13 film projects out of 260 submissions. In October filmmakers pitched for support to sponsors of “world cinema” in Oslo. Dangarembga’s film was among those selected.

Initiated in 2003, the Kare Kare Zvako series challenges Zimbabwean filmmakers to intensify their creativity and make better use of local materials and languages in their filmmaking.

States Dangarembga: “Kare Kare Zvako has proved that folk tales and legends are perfect sources of material to achieve originality and easy access by different audiences”.

Mother’s Day is the first part of the trilogy followed by Nyaminyami Amaji Abulozi.

Meanwhile, Dangarembga has relinquished her position as IIFF (International Images Film Festival) Festival Director to Yvonne Jila. The latter’s portfolio includes overall management of IIFF, fundraising for the festival, festival reporting and networking among other things.

Jila holds a National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Harare Polytechnic.
