
A scene from Child of DestinyMARTIN CHEMHERE writes Child of Destiny is a new film based on a local dance groups spectacular performance at the Roots Home Coming Festival in The Gambia.
The film is funded by the countrys president following a spectacular and culturally rich performance by the Gambia Youth Actors Association (GYAA) at the internationally famed arts showcase.
Languages featured in the film are English and local lingo Mandinka. Writer Boe Sawo and director Amadou Sillah co-produced with GYAA.
Well known Gambian filmmaker Alhagie Manka did the camerawork on a Canon 7D with a H4N Zoom external recorder for audio.
States Manka: I did some great camerawork on this film. The standard is high and Gambians can be proud of it. The crew was so dedicated and professional.
Child of Destiny is based on ancient beliefs bound in the words of prophecy. It is set in the ancient kingdom called Ninki, where the king rules with wisdom and compassion, until he is threatened with dethronement.
Starring Boe Sawo, John Njie, Babucarr Pene, Modou Musa Ceesay, Binta Ceesay and Monia Davies, the film was shot in one location in under 21 days in Tanji, in the Coastal area of the Gambia.
