Vaselinetjie, the film based on Anoeschka von Mecks award-winning youth
novel was released on Friday, 22 September in theatres countrywide and is already a
box-office hit by earning more than R1 million since its release. The film has been
seen by over 23 000 people to date. Besides winning the award for Best Film at the
2017 kykNET Silwerskerm Festival, critics are full of praise for this must-see film.
Vaselinetjie, a white girl, is raised by her loving grandparents in an isolated
town in the Northern Cape. However, when the welfare discovers Vaselinetjie isnt the
couples biological grandchild, Vaselinetjie is sent to a state orphanage in
Johannesburg. There she has to adjust in a tough orphanage world and falls in love
with the fiery Texan Kirby.

Nicole Bond and Marguerite van Eeden make their film debuts as the young and older
Vaselinetjie Bosman respectively. The cast also comprises Arno Greeff, Elzet Nel, Elani
Dekker, Marise Loots, Anchen du Plessis, Daniah de Villies and veteran actors Royston
Stoffels and Shaleen Surtie-Richards.
Vaselinetjie, a film by The Film Factory in association with Red Letter Day
