With the help of Ford South Africa, pay-TV broadcaster M-Net has secured a R500,000 cash prize for the winner of the sixth season of the hit reality show, Idols. This is the biggest prize money ever for the South African produced version of this international format.
M-Net’s Head of Local Content Helen Smit says: “Idols has always been a fantastic platform from which young performers can launch their musical careers. The prize money will provide an incredible boost for the winner, who will no doubt be able to put it to great use.”

Ben Pillay, Ford Marketing Manager, adds: “By offering the winning Idol a cash component over and above an exciting all new FordFigo, as well as another FordFigo for a member of the voting public, Ford South Africa hopes to raise the stakes significantly in this year's competition. We are putting our full weight behind Idols VI and we are confident that this year's Idols will be bigger and better than ever before.”

Idols auditions are starting soon and will be held at these venues in the following cities:
Cape Town - 6 April, 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre
Durban - 17 April, 2010 at Gateway shopping centre
Johannesburg - 24 April, 2010 at the Sandton International Convention Centre
Port Elizabeth - 2 May, 2010 at Boardwalk shopping centre
Bloemfontein - 8 May, 2010 at Windmill entertainment centre

As was the case last season, potential songbirds will be allowed to audition with a musical instrument of their choice again. Contestants between the ages of 16 and 30 are eligible for entry.
