A new record has been set at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with 22 theatres digitally equipped. Christie will be responsible for all digital projection at the festival for the complete Official Selection, Out of Competition and Marché du Film elements.
As technical partner, Christie will supply brand-new DLP Cinema® digital projectors for the projection of major works throughout the Festival. Of the 22 digitally equipped theatres that the Festival now has at its disposal, 11 of them are equipped with the new range of Christie SolariaTM projectors – the CP2220 and the CP2230.
Fully compliant with DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) specifications, the Christie Solaria series is upgradeable and ready for 4K digital cinema.
“For the fourth year in a row, it is a huge privilege to see our digital projectors playing such a critical role in this key event in international cinema”, said Christie EMEA Vice President, Dale Miller.
According to Pascal Gervais, Director of Development for Christie, France, Chrisitie’s agreement with the festival covers the provision of technical and logistical aspects of 2D and 3D digital projection.
This agreement comes into effect at a time when France is speeding up its switch to digital. In April 2010, there were no fewer that 1000 digitally equipped theatres, representing nearly 20% of all screens in use. 75% of these 1000 theatres are thus able to show the 3D versions of films offered by distributors.
